Michael Liszka - Varsity Coach
Michael Liszka, a former North Stars player and one of Illinois High School hockey’s top scorers, has 1 year of coaching experience. He also played college hockey at the University of Kentucky.
Michael’s coaching philosophy is built around playing the game the right way—emphasizing pressure in the zone, defense, and teamwork on and off the ice.
His goal is to ensure his players continue to improve and grow as both athletes and individuals. Off the rink, Michael enjoys golfing, watching football, and movies.
Fun Fact: Michael was one of the top scorers in Illinois High School hockey while playing for the NorthStars.

Jimmy Kasch - Assistant Varsity Coach
Jimmy Kasch brings 2 years of coaching experience and 16 years of playing experience to the North Stars Hockey Club. A former player for Maine Hockey in high school and the University of Kentucky Men’s Ice Hockey team in college, Jimmy’s favorite memories include scoring a goal at the United Center during his state championship and notching back-to-back hat tricks against Louisville in college.
His coaching philosophy emphasizes discipline, respect, and accountability, with the goal of helping players not only become better athletes but also better individuals.
Off the ice, Jimmy enjoys camping, fishing, and spending time with his four brothers. He is also involved with Misericordia, supporting individuals with special needs.
Fun Fact: Jimmy is a dedicated Chicago Blackhawks fan, with Patrick Kane as his favorite player.

Andrew Krawitz - JV Coach
Andrew Krawitz is entering his 5th year of coaching and his 3rd season coaching high school hockey. A product of the Niles Rangers program, Andrew’s philosophy is centered around player development over victory. He believes the most successful teams aren’t necessarily the ones with the best records but those where every player experiences personal growth. His goal is to prepare his players for varsity-level hockey while fostering a love for the game that mirrors his own.
Andrew’s passion for coaching comes from his desire to help young athletes enjoy the same positive experiences he had playing hockey. Coming from a hockey family, Andrew’s mother, father, brother, and sister all continue to play recreationally. He also remains actively involved with the Niles Rangers, coaching players of all ages from U6 to adults.
Favorite NHL Player: Andrew Shaw, admired for his intensity and edge.
Clay Krawitz - JV Coach
Clay Krawitz has been coaching for 5 years and shares the same roots as his twin brother Andrew, having grown up playing for the Niles Rangers. Currently, a student at IIT working toward his bachelor’s degree after graduating from Oakton College, Clay’s coaching philosophy revolves around accountability. He believes that players should be held responsible for their actions, both on and off the ice, as part of their development.
With several league and tournament championships under his belt, Clay is driven to help his players refine their individual skills and teamwork abilities this season. He credits his former coach, Tom Millhousen, as one of his biggest influences and sees coaching as his way of giving back to the program that shaped him as a player.

Christopher Tran - Director of Hockey Operations
Christopher Tran is entering his 4th year of coaching, currently serving as the Director of Hockey Operations. He played at DePaul University on the ACHA D2 team, where he developed his passion for the game both on and off the ice. Christopher’s coaching philosophy focuses on creating a fun, competitive, and safe environment, with an emphasis on the development of players both athletically and personally. He believes that the attitudes and efforts on the ice should reflect those off the ice, striving for constant improvement.
Outside of hockey, Christopher stays busy playing on several men's league teams and a veteran hockey team, where he serves as Treasurer. He’s also an avid motorcyclist and golfer. Christopher hopes to impact his players beyond their hockey skills, acting as a resource for those applying to college or seeking career advice. His own background in finance, having worked in hedge funds, investment banking, treasury, and acquisitions, positions him well to mentor players in life beyond hockey.
Fun Fact: Christopher is a former active-duty Marine and martial arts instructor, having traveled to 13 countries and across the U.S.
